how to make a living on ebay

We've all ahad that moment where we say to ourselves 'I must be able to make some money online, loads of people are doing it, but what do I do?'
Ebay is the place where most people start and eventually come back to. Lets face it, theres already a crowd of millions who are looking to buy. You've got them right there in front of you. You haven't got to got through the heartache of setting up a website and marketing it yourself. You can spend lots of money and time trying to drive potential buyers to your website and try and gain trust from them before you even have a chance of selling something to them.
Not with ebay. Ebay is a trusted site where millions of buyers visit every minute of every day of the year and your items are already there in front of them, saying 'buy me, buy me'.
Yes, you've still got to gain trust as an individual ebay seller, but you can do that with good feedback.
Ebay is still the only place any guy in the street can instantly make money. In fact, you can instantly make a living online with ebay.
The only thing that stops an ebay seller carrying on is through lack of items to sell on ebay. With SALEHOO you don't have to worry about finding stock to sell on ebay. You don't have to worry if a new wholesaler or supplier you want to use is reputable because they've already been screened and checked out for you.
SALEHOO do all this for you so all you need to do is decide what to sell on ebay and stop asking yourself 'how to make a living on ebay'. The answer is 1 click away.

How to get a good feedback rating on ebay

To make sure you have consistant sales on ebay you must make sure you keep your feedback rating as high as possible.
Would you want to buy from someone who's got a low feedback rating and poor comments about their service?
Buyers WILL check out your feedback and you need to make sure it's good.
  • Make sure you are polite and courteous with any questions you receive from a potential buyer. Reply quickly.
  • Make sure your item is how you described it in your listing. There's nothing worse than your buyer opening your sold ebay item to find it damaged in some way.
  • Take care with your packaging. Post your item quickly.
  • Don't try to make a killing on your postage or delivery charges. Buyers will respond negatively if you do this and your feedback rating could suffer.

Treat your 1,000th ebay buyer as if they are your first. Keep up your customer service. Buyers WILL return to you.

Where to find your ebay stock?

Once you've been bitten by the ebay bug and sold everything you can from your spare things in your home, what do you do then? How can you find a good supply of stock to sell on ebay?
You've maybe already got a good idea of what sells well on ebay and need to find a good supplier? Where do you go?
You could spend hours, days, weeks or even years searching the web for suppliers without success. Most of the best suppliers won't even advertise or make themselves known on the internet so what do you do?
There is a brilliant source of finding stock for an ebay business. One place to go to find hundreds of suppliers ready to help you. This place is SALEHOO. Here, you will find over 8,000 YES 8,000 pre screened suppliers. You only have to read some of the testimonials from genuine people like you, who use SALEHOO and what a difference it's made to their lives.
You'll find suppliers and wholesalers of every type of product you can think of, brand names and even better is that most of them have NO MINIMUM ORDER!! Brilliant.

Postage charges

Postage charges on ebay matter more than you think.
Most seasoned ebayers will know if you're trying to make a quick buck by inflating your postage and packing charges and pass on your item.
I'm not saying it's wrong to make a little on this, after all, you've got to pack the sold item and spend time in taking it to the post office and pay for the postage. But don't go over the top. You can get lists of postage charges from your post office or delivery company and we've all got a set of scales at home haven't we? You can work out your cost fairly quickly so you know what to charge.
As you can see on ebay, buyers can search for items with free delivery. I've used free delivery for items I'm selling most of the time. It's quite a good advantage if its a fairly small item and you're selling using the 'buy it now' feature. You can work some of the cost of delivery in with the price of your item by doing this and if a buyer is searching 'free delivery' then your items will appear in the narrowed down results.

Write a great title

Okay. You've got your ebay photos perfected, now you have to make sure you write a great item description.
Start with your title. This will pull your potential buyer in to click on your item to find out more about it.
Don't just write what the item is, SELL it. Is the item old or rare? Is it in great condition. Is the item in it's original box or packaging? Does your item have a model number?
Example. You want to sell your Nokia E66. Which looks better?

1- Nokia phone OR
2- Nokia E66, BOXED with EXTRAS. GREAT condition.

You could also write a sub heading such as -'FREE DELIVERY!!'

Have a search on ebay for something that you're interested in buying. Have a look at the titles and see which ones catch your eye and which ones don't. Have a look at the difference between them and see what tips you can learn from the good ones.
Some will be written all in lower case, some in all upper case. I've always preferred a mix of the two, upper case for words that matter, your keywords, like 'boxed' and 'extras' above. Having a mix of the two just helps draw the eye to the title a little better.
Happy title writing

The benefits of a good photo

When a potential buyer searches for the item you're selling on ebay, they will more than likely be presented with a few results to look at (unless you're selling something really, really unique).
You MUST have a photo of your item to stand any chance of selling it. Would you even bother to go on to read the description of an item you're looking for on ebay if it didn't have a photo?
Your photograph can make the difference between selling your item or the buyer looking at someone else's item.
Don't rush taking your photo. Make sure your photo is clear, not blurry. Take your photo in plenty of light, it can help sometimes if the item is small enough to put in a window sill. Natural light will help with your photo more than a flash, especially if your item is shiny such as a piece of glazed pottery.
If you need to, take a few photos to get an all over view of the item. If your item has a maker's mark or backstamp for example, take a photo of that too. You can add a few photos with your ebay description.
The best thing about digital cameras is that you can take as many photos as you want until you're happy with your results. Remember, always think to yourself 'would I be attracted to that particular item by the photo if I was searching for it myself?'
There is a way to use professionally taken photos without the hassle of taking them yourself. There is more about this in the 'DROPSHIPPING' section.
Happy snapping!

Lets get started

Okay. You want to make some extra money, or even progress to a full time online business online but don't really know where to start.
Perhaps you've already got an ebay account or you want to start selling on ebay and have been a bit afraid to? Either way, don't worry, making extra money on ebay is easier than you think.
For the complete beginner (those of you already using ebay please bear with me for a second), search for ebay on your internet search engine and open an account by following the instructions on the ebay site. You then need to open a Paypal account to take your payments from your buyers safely which you then link to your new ebay account. Again, just follow the simple steps on the ebay and paypal sites to do this.
Next, find a few things to sell. Have a rummage through your shed, garage, spare room and cupboards. you'll find plenty of items to get you started.
The next few sentances are a very, very brief outline of what to do when you place your item on ebay to sell.
I'll cover each step in more detail in other places of this blog to help you make the most of your listing for maximum profits.
Take a really good photo of your item and put it in a file on your computer.
Follow the steps for selling your item on ebay and make sure you write a really good description designed to make your item stand out from the rest.
Send your sold item as soon as you can (preferably within 24 hours).
These are the VERY basic steps to get you going on ebay and on the road to making money online.
  • Open your ebay account
  • Open your paypal account and link to your ebay account
  • Find a few things around the home to sell
  • Take a good photo of your item
  • Upload your photo and write a description
  • Put your item up for sale
  • Post your sold item to your winning bidder quickly
  • Have fun with you ebaying!!

Cheers
